Raven's Ravings (by Believe it or not I'm Baaaacckkkk!):

Helloooooo!
I am finally back for two weeks from my travels.. I have been from one coast to the other stopping in some great cities... Boston, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Chicago and Washington D.C. I only wish I did have time to stop and say hi to some of my Xena buddies in these cities. I have only one more seminar and that is in Atlanta mid July. I am sorry to those who have emailed me that I have been delayed in responding and to those I promised cd's to I fully intend to complete my mission as soon as time allows. Currently my time only seems to allow for packing and cleaning and on occasion sleep :)

Now for the good fiction stuff I have tons here and hope we can keep up with all those wonderful bards!

*****************Announcement from Academy of Bards:
A Bard's Contest!!! YES!! You too can write the season finale to Xena! The basics:

You come on board right after mid-season and know that they have several scripts already in preproduction but can choose to pick up your story (or story arc):
1) after MHR or WFC or SP and ignore FIN OR
2) extend the series one episode beyond the storyline of FIN OR
3) rewrite the storyline of FIN OR
4) you can scrap any/all those episodes and do it all your way

You know it's gonna be a challenge...are you up to it? Do you go with your gut feelings ignoring the masses or cave in to the wishes of rabid fans who want final answers and resolution? Do you finally answer the "are they or aren't they" questions, graphically and without any doubts or do you dance around it to the bitter end? Do you tie up all the loose ends? Do you create new loose ends? Do you end it ambiguously in hopes you get a shot at a movie somewhere down the line?

You have been given a blank check and complete creative control...will be it a raging epic action storyline or a smaller heartfelt relationship storyline? Drama or comedy? You are the boss. ~~~~

Unlike the last challenge...there is really only one major rule here...you must start the story with X&G but you may include uber incarnations (of same) if that's where your muse takes you.

You are free to write as much or as little as you wish, in any form. As such, for fairness, we have broken the contest up into three format categories:

Outline format (bare bones synopsis---less than 10 pages)
Script format (settings, stage direction and dialogue)
Epic format (Prose---regular story format, generally more than 10 pages)
There will be one champion chosen for each category.
Also deadlines for each category will be different to allow for the length difference in writing. Pieces must be submitted within the following time periods:

Outline format --- two weeks...deadline 7/14/01
Script format --- four weeks...deadline 7/28/01
Epic format --- six weeks...deadline 8/11/01

A Bard may submit only one entry in any of the forms... submit your storyline to Steph at the Bard Academy academy_contest@yahoogroups.com by the date indicated. We will begin accepting entries on July 1st.

Stories will then be categorized, numbered and posted anonymously. Voting will begin immediately after the stories are posted and the voting period will be determined by the total number of entries...(1 day for each entry...so if there are 30 total entries, then readers will have 30 days to read them all and vote). Each voter will get to pick their choice for champion in each of the three categories.

Prizes (to be determined) will be awarded to the winners of each category. We have LL/ROC signed items and Xena T-shirts (and let's see what other kind of goodies I can come up with in the next few weeks). All entries will be posted permanently at the Bard Academy and at Alexiares' new site.

Contests not your style? Well, if the muse is talking but you don't want to participate in the Challenge...you can send your series ender to Alexiares at alexiares@usa.net right now. Alexiares, our new partner in crime, is building a wonderful site just for this purpose. When it's up and ready we will post the location so you can check it out.

Okay, folks, this is your chance to do it all your way...let's have some fun and write some fan fiction. Any questions contact me at WarriorNutcase@aol.com

Random Ramblings (by Celine): The uber world has been a bit quiet the last few days... guess that's partly due to everyone reacting in one manner or another over the show ending, and the fact it's summer. Vacations, etc., I'm guessing. I do have a few more to updates to list which aren't in tonight's post, but those will have to wait until the morrow.

Speaking of the show ending, super webmistress, artist, and bard MaryD has started compiling a list of fanfic which deals with the finale. Major spoiler warns if you choose to read the stories... just so you know.

In tribute news, I still wasn't able to get the tributes up... our lovely Beyond Uber editor Raven was supposed to be home on Sunday afternoon, and I had some questions for her before the tributes could be posted. But her flight was canceled and she had to take a later flight. So it's all the airline's fault, whichever airline that may be.

That's my story and I'm stickin' to it. So Raven called me this morning to tell me about her delayed flight home, but I was asleep when she called... so the phone conversation was her telling me of her change in plans and me saying insightful things like: "Okay" and "Okay" again. I'm not a morning person. I'm fairly certain I told her "thanks for letting me know" at least 4 or 5 times, but I don't really remember too much of the conversation. I do know she apologized about 30 times for waking me up, and I told her to not worry about it about 30 times in response.

Wow, eh? I'm such a brilliant conversationalist, it's just scary.

Or not.

Random Ramblings (by Celine):

It's photo time!

As promised, I have adorable photos of some adorable kitties. Yesterday they were all sitting in the window sill in the kitchen, looking out the window at a bird who was sitting on the top of the patio table umbrella.

The black blob on the left is Pesha the Pet My Belly Kitty who just doesn't show up very well in photos, in the middle is Murphy the Cat of Many Toes, and on the right is Tango the Wonder Kitten. As for what they were looking at: In other animals news, here's a photo of my doberman, Coco, just for the heck of it: And here are some photos of my Purple Plaything (the photos make it look blue but it's not, I swear!): Wow. Isn't this exciting? I'm like your aunt Erma who pulls out her entire box of slides from 1961 of that trip she took to her sister's in Utah, only it wasn't really Utah it was Arizona, but you know Aunth Erma, she doesn't remember things very well anymore. Poor thing.

In other news, I want to thank Shannon for writing. Yes, I am bloody nuts, and am proud of it. :)

for the record, I did watch the series finale of "Xena" tonight. I won't comment on the content for those who haven't seen it, but I will say LL and (especially) ROC are awesome actors and they give powerful performances in the finale. They do their characters and the show itself proud. I will miss them.

Speaking of that, I'll be working on the tribute pages on Sunday.

And one more thing - thank the Gods for uber. Just wanted to mention that.

Random Ramblings (by Celine): Yep, it's me. The one who should have been posting those very cool Xena tributes all week. But I've not been feeling well, and I've had a lot of work to do. That and I've been kind of avoiding thinking about the Xena show for the last several days. But this weekend, I will definitely get them up, even if I have to chain myself to the computer to do it.

Oh, to anyone who's written to me in the last week and I haven't written back, I haven't forgotten. I'll try to get back to everyone over the weekend.

In thank you news, many thanks to Singer for posting all week and for covering for me on the tribute thing. You rock, lady. :)

In other news... I'm in love. Utterly and completely in love. It all started on Tuesday afternoon and I heard the doorbell ring. Next thing I knew, I was head over heels, seeing things I'd never seen, capturing moments in time to tuck away for future trips down memory lane of this happy time. All it takes is a simple touch, and I know I'll remember the moment forever.

Yes, friends, I'm in love... with my new digital camera. It's awesome. It's a Kodak DC4800 Zoom Digital, and it's just lovely. Wanna see some photos I've been taking with it?

These are scenic photos from a couple of parks in town. There's not a lot to take photos of where I live, so what I can take photos of are... well, the parks.

Tomorrow I'll have a few adorable photos of my three kitties doing something adorable, all at the same time. Stay tuned. ;)

I saw another scooter in a parking lot today... a Yamaha. My Purple Plaything (which is a Honda scooter) was intrigued by the find. The Yamaha was also purple, so I think my scooter felt she'd found a kindred spirit. Or maybe just a good... uh, riding partner. But, alas, the Yamaha's "owner" was nowhere to be seen and I had to leave to go to the store. After all, groceries wait for no man, no woman, and definitely no scooter. Perhaps they'll meet again... someday.

In our lovely Beyond Uber editor Raven news, she called me a couple of days ago while she was standing across the street from the White House in Washington, D.C. She told me she was on her way back to her hotel, but needed to find the Metro and she had no idea where it was. I wonder if she ever found it? Who knows, she could still be out there, be wandering around looking for it. I just hope she brought along her Palm handheld so she wouldn't have to be without uber. That would be a true tragedy.

Actually, she did call me yesterday and she did eventually find her way back to the hotel. She was resting up for a trip to see the monuments by moonlight. But first she had the burning need to ask me what was new in the world of uber. As if I pay attention to those things. :)

In non-uber news, Temora has written a story which takes place after the events in "A Friend In Need 2" (the "Xena" series finale) which I found to be a good follow up to the show ender. Warning, the story most definitely contains spoilers for the finale.

It's short, alt, X/G, and Celine Recommended. No summary because it would have to contain spoilers.

Consider this (from Singer) I'm baaack....

Well, this'll be my last post for a week or so. I'll be out of town getting some much needed rest after tromping around a foreign country with 3 teenagers. I guess I'll have to give the thing back to Raven and Celine.
I received a really cool email from a reader, telling me that she put us (BU) before Mary D in her bookmarks. WOW!!! Now, that's a compliment. Thanks, Jen.
As you can see, we still have no tributes up. Poor Celine is still feeling bad, and just hasn't been able to work much. "We miss you, and hope you feel better soon. Besides, we're really getting tired of Singer."
"HEY!! I heard that!"
Anyway, As soon as she feels up to it, we'll be posting the tributes.
In other news, uh....let's see...Oh yeah, Angelina Jolie is HOT! Wait, I said that yesterday, didn't I? Hmmm...ummmmm... Oh, I know!
Did you know that dogs equate suitcases with visits to the kennel? They do! I promise. Our pups took one look at the suitcases, and promptly began to picket the house. Who knew that dogs could spell descrimination? Or Unjust treatment? Or persecution? Makes me feel kinda guilty about now. Well, they'll just have to deal with it for another week, and then moms will be home for a while.
Do you want another song? Well, since I haven't received any email bombs, I'm gonna assume that it's ok. So, Here's another one:

After All These Years
By Anne Cochran/Jim Brickman

Here we are * After all these years
Face to face * Heart to heart
And I've loved you from the start
But I never thought that we'd be standing here
After all these years

Here we are * With another song to sing
All these days * Pass us by
As we watched our childhood fly
And I'm still the one to share your hopes and fears
After all these years

Chorus

After all these years
We still have each other
One to another
After all these years
You're still the one
And I'm still here
After all these years

Here we are * With another bridge to cross
Face to face * Heart to heart
And I've loved you from the start
But I never thought that we'd be standing here
After all these years

(Chorus)

And I've loved these days
All we been through
And I'd just like to say
I'm so glad it's been you
Here's one more song from the heart
For the laughter and the tears
After all these years

(Chorus)

After all these years......

Consider this (from Singer) It's me again...Let me know when you get tired of me, and I'll let Celine and Raven have the site back. Until then, bwah ha ha ha ha ha ha...I'm in control of you all. Ahem...sorry. I just returned from seeing the new Tomb Raider flick, and I guess I'm feeling empowered. By the way... Angelina Jolie is HOT!!! Hot, I say. I loved the movie, though I think "A" was concerned that Angelina's lips might be her downfall. Get it? Big lips? Down "fall"? Fall down? Nevermind.
Anyway, The air is sort of back on. One unit is fine, while the other one went to the great repair store in the sky. Sad thing. At least we're not cooking in our own juices, anymore. Did you get the Xena reference, here? Should I just quit all this nonsense? Yeah, I think I should, too.
I have recieved several notes regarding the songs I've been posting. They have all been very positive and nice. So, I will continue to post them until someone yells for me to stop, or until the time finally comes that I feel better about the whole end of the series thing. I hope you don't mind.

In other news, (yes, I really have some other news tonight), Celine tells me that one or more of the tributes will be posted this evening. These have been a labor of love that I thoroughly enjoyed. The series is entitled, "The Gifts". They are simply that. Images that hopefully portray the many things that the show has given us over the years. From Xena to Gabrielle. From Amazons to "the look". From Friendship to Love. Many facets of a show we adored. Raven told me that if I come up with others, we'll drop them in later. That means that the tributes may never end. :) That's ok with me. The show, and what it gave will go on for years.

Here's my song for the day:

Immortality
By Celine Dion

So this is who I am, and this is all I know.
And I must choose to live, for all that I can give,
The spark that makes the flower grow.

And I will stand for my dream if I can,
Symbol of my faith in who I am,
But you are my only
And we don't say good bye
We don't say goodbye
And I know what I've got to be

Immortality
I make my journey through eternity
I keep the memory of you and me
Inside

Fulfill your destiny, is there within the child.
My storm will never end, My fate is on the wind,
The king of hearts, the joker's wild
But we don't say goodbye
We don't say goodbye

I'll make them remember me
'Cos I have found a dream that must come true
Every ounce of me must see it through
But you are my only
I'm sorry I don't have a role for love to play
Hand over my heart I'll find my way
I will make them give to me

Immortality
There is a vision and a fire in me
I keep the memory of you and me
Inside
And we don't say goodbye
We don't say goodbye
With all my love for you
And what else we may do
We don't say goodbye

Consider this (from Singer) Hello all. It's me again. Join with me now in thanking Celine for handling all the site stuff while Raven and I have been galivanting around.
"THANK YOU, CELINE!!!"
Be sure to send positive thoughts to her, because she's not feeling well.
The air-conditioner is off at the house. That means it's hot in here. That also means that grumpiness abounds in the house. I'm not happy...A's not happy...even the dogs aren't happy. My popsicle melted before I could eat it, so now I have purple fingers. At least purple is my favorite color.
In other news, There will be a series of tributes to the show as soon as we get the page set up. I do belive that there will be a total of 9 posted, but we'll know for sure when we put them up. :) Our original plan was to have one up for every day of the last week before the final episode, but we may have to change that a bit. Just be patient, and we'll let you know when they are up. We are very proud of what the show has given us, and simply want to return the favor.
In other news, uh...there is no other news. At least from me.
I would, however, like to share another song. As the moniker "Singer" denotes, I am in love with music. For me, there is no more powerful medium than that of music. It moves us, enflames emotions, and gives flight to dreams. For the past six years, I have built a collection of songs that embody Xena and Gabrielle. Songs that tell of a love that knows no bounds, hears nothing of hate, and sees no end. I would like to share a few of them. Some are by artists both popular and unknown. A few by myself. I hope you enjoy them as much as I have.
Dante's Prayer
By Loreena McKennitt

When the dark wood fell before me * When all the paths were overgrown
When the priests of pride say there is no other way * I tilled the sorrows of stone.
I did not believe because I could not see * Though you came to me in the night
When the dawn seemed forever lost * You showed me your love in the light of the stars.
Cast your eyes on the ocean * Cast your soul to the sea
When the dark night seems endless * Please remember me.
Then the mountain rose before me * By the deep well of desire
From the fountain of forgiveness * Beyond the ice and the fire.
Cast your eyes on the ocean * Cast your soul to the sea
When the dark night seems endless * Please remember me.
Though we share this humble path, alone * How fragile is the heart
Oh give these clay feet wings to fly * To touch the face of the stars.
Breathe life into this feeble heart * Lift this mortal veil of fear
Take these crumbled hopes, etched with tears * We'll rise above these earthly cares.
Cast your eyes on the ocean * Cast your soul to the sea
When the dark night seems endless * Please remember me.
Please remember me.
Please remember me.
Please remember me.
Please remember me.
Please remember me.

Consider this (from Singer) I'm back. Did you miss me? Awww, aren't you sweet. Switzerland is beautiful, but I must admit that I was ready to come home. You know what I missed the most? My pillow. All the pillows there were feather and flatter than my brain waves in the morning. "A" and I took one of her nephews and two nieces to Switzerland because her mother had done it for all the grandchildren as they reached 16 and 17. After her mother passed away, "A" decided that she would continue the tradition. Nice, huh? It was fun. The kids were great, and the whole experience was fantastic.

Then I returned home to spoilers for the finale of the show that started all this. I will not be watching the final episode. Instead, I offer you my ending of the show with a song:

Take me home
by Donna Lewis
Here, I'm standing strong
I've made my choice at last
forever
Here where I belong
with you my love, my friend
no other
(Chorus)
Lost inside of you
I'm breathless floating through
Take me home
We can run with the rainstorms
We can sit and stare at the world
confess our secrets to mother earth (take me home)
And home, down the new road of our life
Through the window of snow fields and happiness
A new you, a new me
Take me home
Now (come with me now) I understand (come with me now)
the love we give away
we keep forever
Laugh (come with me now) with tears of joy (come with me now)
I'm soaring free
with you, together
(Chorus)
Come, take my hand
my heart, my soul
come to a place
loved long ago
Come, take my hand
my heart, my soul
come to a place
loved long ago
We can run with rainstorms
we can sit and stare at the world
confess our secrets to mother earth (take me home)
And home, to the lakes of our childhood
we can leave the meanness behind
under the sunset skies (take me home)
And home, to the land of our loved ones
to a place where there's a warm hand to hold
A wilderness unknown (take me home)
And home, down the new road of our life
through the window of snowfields and happiness
a new you, a new me
take me home
yeah
take me home
yeah

Random Ramblings (by Celine): Inquisitive Beyond Uber reader Carol asked me yesterday if Beyond Uber will continue now that "Xena: Warrior Princess" has completed its run. The answer: Heck, yeah! As long as uber and original fiction continues to be posted to the web, we'll be around. Remember -- we have no social lives. ;)

Or maybe that's just me. Anyway, you can expect us to stick around. In related news, we have a week long tribute which was supposed to start today, but I ran out of time to complete it, so look for it to start in tomorrow's update.

In other news, our lovely Beyond Uber editor Raven is off (hehe!) to Chicago and Washington D.C. on another business trip this week, so it will be Singer (yes, she's back!) and me holding down the fort. Let's all wish Raven a happy trip and cross our fingers and toes that she actually has a few minutes to enjoy herself while she's gone.

In music news, I bought Beach Boys concert tickets the other day. They're going to be playing the Oregon State Fair this year and how cool are the Beach Boys... gotta see 'em. And I'll be sitting right smack dab in the front... so close I'll be able to see all their wrinkles and gray hairs. ;)

Speaking of concerts, which makes me think of taking pictures (which I love to do), I have a new digital camera on order... should be here on Tuesday. I'm so excited. A new toy! It's a Kodak DC4800 Zoom Digital, for those who care.

Oh, hey... wanna see a photo I took the other day? Of course you do. I know these things. It's of a covered bridge not too far from where I live:

It's a perty bridge. Again, I know these things.

Random Ramblings (by Celine): It was recommended to me I read uber to cheer myself up after not feeling well this last week. So I did. Yep, it was tough (ha!) but I persevered. My uber of choice was Kim (KP) Pritekel's "Old Wounds, New Beginnings" which you can find at Kim's site: I adored it... great characters, engaging story, and it makes me want to talk like a Southerner and sing a certain ol' country song mentioned a few times throughout. Wanna summary of this here fine story? There happens to be one at Kim's site, so you won't have to suffer through one of my own pitiful summaries: "Jamie gets out of prison after serving a seven year sentence in Colorado, and decides to head to Texas to work on a ranch, and start her life again. There she will try to find peace, forgiveness, and possibly love." That's exactly what I was going to say. Or not. Anyway, it's uber, alt, and Celine recommended. Read it in good health.

Random Ramblings (by Celine): Note about our lovely Beyond Uber editor Raven -- to anyone who's written to her recently and hasn't received a reply, please know she will be catching up on her email after the 25th. She's been traveling all over the country conducting seminars for the company she's works for and hasn't had time to... well, breathe, so her free time has been limited.

In health news, Raven told me I have to cheer up or she'd come to Oregon and beat me up. To avoid that, I am declaring myself to be happy and healthy! Yeah!

In girl power news, it's official: girls kick ass. I know this because I finally have a bumper sticker which says so. As you may recall, I'd ordered one a couple months ago but I never received it. The place (allpride.com) said my order was partially on backorder... and they kept saying that until I finally gave up.

That's okay, though. Rockin' bard Mavis Applewater happened to have connections to get me the very bumper sticker I'd been trying to order (from a difference source), and it arrived on my doorstep this very day. That is so very cool.

And she gave it to me for free. All because she's a nice person. All that writing talent and she's a cool lady to boot. Gotta like that. I know I do.

So I'm now kicking ass. Oh, speaking of ass kickers, the bard with Texas-sized talent Carrie Carr has a really nifty deal going... as a thank you to those who have her books (Destiny's Crossing and Hope's Path), she will send you autographed bookplates to stick in 'em for the price of a self-addressed, stamped envelope. She was foolish enough to give me the address to which you can send your SASEs...

Carrie Carr
PO Box 211882
Bedford, TX
76095-8882
FYI -- The bookplates are 3.5 by 4 inches. Allow for that when you send your SASEs.

What a deal. Hey, when you send those SASEs, don't forget to tell Carrie what a great bard she is.

In movie news, I was a bad girl and bought a couple of DVD movies yesterday... The Princess Bride and Miss Congeniality. Maybe someday I'll actually watch them. I'm terrible about that... I can't tell you how many times I've rented a movie and then ended up taking it back unwatched. You'd think I'd learn.

Rhonda's Righteous Writings (by Rhonda):

(Note from Celine -- this update is from our helpful Beyond Uber report Rhonda. She is filling in for me on this update since I'm not feeling well. Thanks, Rhonda!)

Hi all,

First off, I would like to give a shout out to all the bards in Xenaverse. Some of you might have already heard from me because I totally believe in feedback. You all ROCK!

I went to see Moulin Rouge (twice). Loved it. If you like broadway shows or anything like that, go see this. Soundtrac is wonderful also. Songs from Elton John, Beck, Police (Roxanne), and Christina Aguilera just to name a few. Nicole Kidman and Ewan McGregor do a great job in this, singing. That is my humble opinion. If you don't like it, hey it's alright by me.

[Fanfic] Lois Hart next installment of Broken Homes is in, hippy terms, "far out".

Vertigo is sending Reece and Faith screaming, but this time, showing their love for one another is NOT the cause.

For all of those reading this, just remember to chant this while reading the extraordinary works around Xenaverse, ahem, "Beyond Uber is good, I need Beyond Uber." That's all folks! Have a great....ummm..something?

Random "I'm not quite dead yet" Ramblings (by Celine): Um, so well... my email was down on Saturday all day. It was hell. Then Sunday I had this last minute work project from a certain person on this list who will remain nameless because to utter her name will cause certain mass destruction, and it took me all day to do. And today (Monday) I feel like crap. So that's that.

And to top it all off, I missed taping Soul Possession over the weekend, so I have to wait until next weekend. The horror!

I have family coming from Idaho on Tuesday, but I'm pretty sure I'll get the update (which would be the Wednesday update, since we post the night before) out in an attempt to catch up.

Our lovely Beyond Uber editor Raven, meanwhile, is presently in Los Angeles for work, and then will be in San Francisco on Wednesday... non-stop workin' and no playin'. She did promise to get me pin/buttons (which I collect), so I'm a happy camper. :)

I'm going to bed now. Good night, all.

Random Ramblings (by Celine):

IMPORTANT INFO TIME:

1. My internet server is going to be down most of tomorrow for system upgrades. This means two things -- I'll be going through major net withdrawal, and some of the beyonduber.com site - specifically the graphics - won't work from time to time. That's because the graphics are hosted on my ISP's web space to alleviate some of the over usage charges I've been getting on the domain's web space account.

But the updates will still be there, so never fear on that.

2. Some folks have reported seeing '404 file not found' type errors when trying to access some of the pages on the site when using the menus at the bottoms of the pages. I, for the life of me, can't find any errors. So if anyone out there is experiencing such errors, please let me know at uber@wvi.com . Let me know what page you find the bad link on (the full URL would be great), and what link you're trying to access.

3. Some of you may still be accessing the http://www.specialweb.com/xena page instead of the domain -- http://www.beyonduber.com. Please use the beyonduber.com domain for any and all access... it might help clear up the link problem for at least some of you.

4. No update tonight. Why? I'm tired from cleaning (yes, friends, I cleaned! A little!) and I have to get up early in the morning to get my hair cut off. Okay, not all of it. I'm not into the bald look. Provided my ISP is back up tomorrow evening, I'll put out the next update then. I apologize.

Friday June 8 Again, 2001

Random Oops Ramblings (by Celine): So, I'm a dork. I misspelled a word in the title of the absolutely cool story by LJ Maas, "A Petal of the Rose." I, in my infinite ability to be a dork, typed 'pedal' instead of 'petal'.

The story update, of course, is at:

Awesome bard Barbara Davies had this comment: "A 'pedal'?! The Rose is presumably the name given to the bicycle?" Maybe. Xena was an inventive person, after all. Maybe she creates a bicycle named Rose in the story? You know, between her Conqueror duties and spending time with Gabrielle, so could have some free time to invent things. It could happen.

Helpful Beyond Uber reader Carla in New Jersey said maybe all that spinning around in that chair got to my brain and caused me to make a typo. That's likely. My brain is already scrambled without all that spinning making it worse.

Oh, Carla... have fun at the beach. I hope you bring along an emergency supply of uber just in case there's a traffic jam, or you get a flat tire, or you have a free second or two somewhere. Wouldn't want you to get bored, after all. I know I take uber wherever I go.

In fact, I'm happily reading "Someone's Justice" by Anne Reagin. It's a finished story, uber alt, and very cool.

Um, a summary... oh, darn. I'm terrible at those things. Okay, there's this realtor and a lawyer and they meet. Oh, just read it, if you haven't already. It's worth it.

Friday June 8, 2001

Random Ramblings (by Celine): Greetings, and welcome to the educational portion of our program.

I spent 22 minutes today going around in circles. In a rather large chair. On purpose. Not only was I going around in circles, these lights were on the walls going the opposite direction with the sole purpose to make me ill.

I do this once a week. On purpose. I'm obviously insane.

This is all part of a therapy I'm going through for an inner ear disorder I have. The purpose of the spinning around in circles -- technically known as optikinetic stimulation -- is to desensitize my tendency to get dizzy and nauseous by my environment. It's working... I started at 5 minutes and am now up to 22. My goal is 30. It's a test also used to train astronauts, but they go at a must faster spinning rate than me. Which is fine by me.

Why am I telling everyone this? Dunno. It's what I did today. If anyone is curious about inner ear disorders, you can visit the Vestibular Disorders Association (an organization which provides info on inner ear disorders) web site for more information:

I've mentioned this once before and it helped someone, so I'm doing it again. So there. For those said curious types, my particular inner ear disorder types are Endolymphatic Hydrops (bilateral) and a Perilymph Fistula (left ear). So if you've been thinking I'm a dizzy blonde (I used to be blonde when I was a kid, and I probably qualify as a dirty (hehe!) blonde now), then you're absolutely right. ;)

Random Ramblings (by Celine): Hello there and welcome to this edition of the Beyond Uber update! In this post, you'll experience the thrills of Random Ramblings, experience the magic of the what's new listings, and come away feeling refreshed, renewed, and all around sated. Sated. That's a word I've learned from fan fiction. I like that word.

This update is brought to you by: Uber Express. When you absolutely must read it now, or die.

In tonight's Random Ramblings: Tango the Wonder Kitten has a successful day of not breaking anything of value. Very helpful Beyond Uber report Rhonda sends Celine a really cool e-card with Renee O'Connor on it (thanks!). Raven is back from her business trip and is presently exhausted and hopefully sleeping as we type. Celine baby sits and flies a Styrofoam airplane for several minutes with 5-year-old nephew. Celine, while experiences the joys (ha!) of her menstrual cycle, goes to Dairy Queen for Peanut Buster Parfait to make herself feel better (it worked). Celine goes to bed after sending out Beyond Uber post because she's so tired, she's actually starting to make sense. We hate it when that happens.

Thank you for joining us for this exciting edition of the Beyond Uber update. Tune in next time when Celine exclaims, "Holy lollypops, Batman!"

Random Ramblings (by Celine): You guys are just too cool. I mentioned Tango's clawing problem in the last update, and have received several emails about it in the last 24 hours. I love you guys.

The funny thing is, I've had cats all my life, but I've never had one like Tango before. He has a nice big scratching post -- which he does use regularly -- toys, other cats, dogs, and humans to play with, but still he persists in doing that which he knows he should not do.

To answer some of the emails -- I've started using the water-filled spray bottle (great idea!) and Tango seems to be responding to it (it makes him run away), and other behavior modification techniques. No I won't be getting him declawed because I understand it's pretty painful and it may lead to biting (I've been doing some research). I've thought about the tendonectomy (where the nerves are cut so he wouldn't be able to extend his claws), but that won't stop him from clawing, and I would prefer a behavior modification and not surgery to correct the problem.

Right now he's sleeping underneath my desk, looking as innocent as can be. But other times... I think I'm going to have to follow him around 24 hours a day to catch him in his destructive little acts.

In non-Tango news, helpful Beyond Uber reader Jackie came up with a really nifty idea for a peace symbol tattoo... in her words:

"Use the Chakram as the circle, a Staff as the center, and 2 sais as the legs (diagonal lines)."

Oooh, I like that idea. You rock, Jackie! I'll have to look into that one. A note, also from Jackie, about using weapons for the peace symbol:

"This is just a suggestion. Although I guess it is kinda of ironic to make a peace symbol with weapons of defence, huh. BUT, another way to look at it is this; true the Chakram was Xena's weapon of war, but the staff & sais were Gabby's weapons of choice for peace and defence. I think it balances it out."

Yep, works for me. I just love the ideas you guys come up with.

Monday June 4, 2001

Random Ramblings (by Celine): Tango the Wonder Kitten cost me $11 today. We had a padded toilet seat in the main bathroom, and sometime today Tango decided to shred it with his little claws. I had to replace it, but wasn't able to find a padded one in the right color and had to go with a wooden one. At least he can't shred this one... he can scratch it, of course, but not shred it.

I feel compelled to use that seat to paddle Tango's behind. But I won't. I'm fairly certain he's impervious to pain, anyway. He regularly falls off of beds, chairs, couches, tables, etc., and lands on his rump or whatever, and it doesn't seem to faze him at all. He's very strange.

I don't know what I'm gonna do with him. He's still young (9 months), so there's still hope for him, I suppose. at least, there had better be. :)

In other news, the lovely Singer and her partner, "A", are merrily winging their way to their vacation destination. And the lovely Raven will be gone on a business trip Tuesday and Wednesday.

I'm going to be all alone, again. *sigh* Just me and my destructive cat, Tango, that is. And my two other cats... and my three dogs... and my nephew's guinea pig. And my mother.

But as far as this site/list goes, I'll be all alone! I need a raise. Too bad I don't get paid to do this, eh? ;)

I've been thinking of getting a tattoo of a peace symbol (duh). I've no idea where on my body I'd put it, and I don't want a run-of-the-mill peace symbol... I want something with style, with flair (have I mentioned I routinely get the theme from the TV show "The Nanny" in my head? I do... constantly. And "she had style, she had flair, she was there..." are part of the lyrics to the song)... maybe with some flowered vines going through it... or something. I dunno. It would be small, I know that much.

Ah, who knows. Maybe someday.

In Purple Plaything news, I've now put 500 miles on the scooter. I told that to one of my neighbors the other day and he asked me where the heck I've been going if I can't leave town. I don't know, really. But I do have fun getting there.

In Beyond Uber mailing list news, we now have 574 members!! Wow!! And the hit counter on the what's new page has reached over 111,000 since early May. Pretty nifty, friends. It will be quite interesting to see how much my web hosting bill will be this month, since adding the http://www.beyonduber.com domain to my existing account kinda blew things away. Can you say "bandwidth over usage charges"? I knew you could. :) It won't be too bad, and I've already upgraded the account to accommodate all y'all's obsessive uber needs. :)

Hey! If you aren't a member of the Beyond Uber mailing list, you should be! It's all the uber updates you could want, delivered right to your email box, for free. What a deal. To join, simply email BeyondUber-subscribe@yahoogroups.com, or go to our what's new page on the site and fill out the handy little form at the top of the page.

And don't be at all concerned about any... uh, changes you may undergo after becoming a member. That's just Singer, Raven, and myself using our Beyond Uber powers to take over the world. Nothing to worry about. Just be aware joining may result in you becoming a lifelong devotee of our site/list. You might also begin to ramble, rave, or consider at odd intervals, whether you want to or not. Please do not be alarmed. It's all for a good cause, after all. Wouldn't the world be more fun if it were run by uber lovers instead of politicians, military leaders, or royalty?

In uber and original fiction books news, my most recent order of books have almost all arrived. All but Hurricane Watch, that is. But from what I understand, it's perfectly normal for that book to take a long time to be delivered... at least from Amazon.com. I would order it from Open Book, Ltd., since I hear they ship things out right quick, but I had a gift certificate at Amazon.com, so that's where I ordered it. It should come someday.

The list of uber and original fiction books I own, as of this very second -- Lucifer Rising (Sharon Bowers), Out Of Darkness (Mary "MaryD" Draganis), Tropical Storm (Melissa Good), Destiny's Crossing and Hope's Path (Carrie "Kick Ass" Carr), The Story of Me (Advocate), Madame President (T Novan and Advocate, aka Blayne Cooper), Castaway (Advocate and Fanatic), Breaking Away (Tonya Muir), and Accidental Love (B L Miller). I think that's all of 'em.

That leaves two to come -- Hurricane Watch (which should arrive some time this century), and True Colors (Karen King, Nann Dunne -- otherwise known as Karen Surtees & Pruferblue) from a certain bard (who happens to be named Karen Surtees) will be sending it to me all the way from the U.K., possibly by way of her co-writer so I can have it autographed by both bards. How cool is that? *Very* cool. Trust me. I know these things.

Random Ramblings (by Celine): Howdy, friends. Let's start with a correction -- when I uploaded the May what's new archive, I'd neglected to actually include the May updates, so anyone visiting saw April's instead. I corrected that little boo-boo earlier today. Sorry about that.

In nifty parades news, I watched the Portland Oregon Starlight Parade on TV tonight, and it got me to thinking. After the smoke cleared (it came out of my ears, after all), the idea formed -- if there were an uber-themed parade, what would it be like?

The grand marshals would be Renee O'Connor and Lucy Lawless, of course, and if they weren't available, Missy Good. The floats... I'm thinking floats to showcase the various uber-X themes (cops, doctors undercover agents, mobsters, etc.), the various uber-G themes (reporters, writers, nurses, etc.), a great big float chock full of bards... maybe several. And the awesome fans... the cool t-shirts... and the books! The books!!! I love the books!!!!!

Ahem. Yes, well, it would be quite the parade. Fun stuff. Good times.

By the way, there's more stuff I have to post, but considering how long the post is tonight, part of it is gonna wait until tomorrow's update. Meanwhile, Raven's been stuck as work preparing for a couple of business trips. Let's all send her happy energy and health vibes, because I happen to know she's worn out and her health is worn out, too.

New Bard URL:

Fantasy has a new location for her site, Fantasy's Realm. Yep, she sure does.

Oh, hey. Maybe I should include it here... ya think?

A note about the site, from Fantasy: "I've got a new story just about finished. It's the conclusion to 'The Real Dreams Series'. The working title is 'Paybacks are a Bitch'. It should be posted soon." I love that title. :)

Random Ramblings (by Celine): My goodness. All I did was include a little message about my Palm not working (okay, so I said I was depressed, etc. :) ), and help came out in droves. I really appreciate all the advice, from uninstalling and reinstalling the software, to soft rebooting, to a bunch of other things.

I tried all of your suggestions, and unfortunately they didn't work. So I called Palm, and they determined it might be my cradle, and said they'd send me a new one next week. So today what to my wondering eyes should appear -- no, not a cradle, but an entirely new Palm. So I called Palm and told them of their error. Which I really didn't have to do, because they had the thing marked on their end as a "ship only" which means they weren't expecting me to send anything back. I asked the customer service guy whether they would have noticed, and he said he didn't know.

*sigh* I'm just too honest. ;) They're sending me a mailing label so I can send the darned thing back. Meanwhile, I figured out what my problem is. I have a program installed called AfterBurner which has an option called 'Fast HotSync' which I'd enabled sometime before now when I was fiddling with the settings in the program, and had completely forgotten about it. It suddenly dawned on me yesterday that I'd done that, and when I unchecked that little box, I could suddenly HotSync once again.

So, in effect, it was all my fault. I'm a dork. But I did learn some things in the process, so that's a good thing. Thanks to all the incredibly cool individuals who emailed me. I really appreciate it.

In other news, the following bards rock -- Mavis Applewater and Karen Surtees. I just thought I'd mention that. :)

In other, other news, I have some awesome artwork I need to get up on the site, but I simply haven't had time. So apologies go to Rocky and Blitzgal. I'll get to them as soon as I possibly can.

Note to the person I promised I'd email the Dexter toys to -- I haven't forgotten, I swear! They're sitting here waiting for me to mail them... I'll do it next week. Sorry about the delay. I'm a dork.

Bard URL Change:

K. Simpson, aka ROCFanKat, has a brand new domain for her very nifty site, The Devil's Workshop:

It also has the coolest tag line -- "Alternative fiction with a bad attitude." I just love that.

Consider this (from Singer) I hate allergies. I really hate allergies. I hate the sneezing, the itchy eyes, the wild run for kleenexes, I hate it all. (sniff) Ok, I'm done ranting. For now...
I cleaned my bathrooms today. Exciting, huh? I enjoyed it. My question though, is why is it that hairspray becomes glue when mixed with dust? You scrub and scrub just to have it icky in a few days. Then you do it all again. I just don't get it.
Anyway, I think the cleaning is all done for our guests. They'll be here Friday evening, and then we'll let THEM watch the dogs for a few days. HA! Just wait'll they try and get all the dog hair off their clothes.
Oh well, not much going on here unless you count the tornado warnings. The weather has been so odd, but that's just the way it is this time of year. I guess my mother won't be having her yard sale this weekend, after all. :) Well, I guess that's it for me...
On to the cool stuff...
