Musings By Xanadu

Good evening, all. I hope you had a wonderful weekend. I can't say mine was bad, in fact I'd say it was good. Sunday we went apple picking. Now, this was a new experience for me. Have you ever stepped on rotten apples on the ground? This is not pleasant. Alas, we picked 13 pounds of apples, and then headed to Wal-Mart to buy stuff to make a pie.

I've never made an apple pie before. Be afraid, be very afraid.

All in all it was great fun, and my girl friend is quite skilled at climbing trees. This was a talent I was not aware of.

Anyway, here is some great fiction for you all. And guys, take it from me, bards appreciate feedback as much as you appreciate the stories. Enjoy!

    Musings By Xanadu

Good evening, all. So how was your Tuesday? See, we're heading into Wednesday, which makes me extremely happy. Wednesday is the big sister to Thursday, which in turn leads to Friday, and the last day of hell, er, work. Yes, there is method to my madness. I think.

Do any of you have pets out there? Of course you do. Well I'd like to tell you a little bit about mine. I have two cats, Sebastian, three years old, and Emily, a year and a few months. Now, they're both crazy, as cats tend to be, but their cool nonetheless. Last weekend my girl friend, Alexa and I took Sebastian, a long-haired furball, to PetSmart to have him shaved. See, Bubba, as he's called, does not like to be bathed, and even the most dedicated of brushers cannot keep the matts out of his fur. So now he has this mane of hair around his neck and face, puffy from finally being clean, then this skinny, scrawny little body with no fur! It's quite funny.

Anyway, just thought all of you should know. So now I get to do a bit of shameless advertisement for my new site that a wonderful person and bard named F.C. Barnes, did for me. I think you all should really go. (grin) Alright, on to the fiction.

    enCHANTations by Mystic Maiden

HEEEY! I see we all made it thru Friday the 13th!!

As our superstitions ran rampant I had my first bard grace me with my first ramble, here she is....

:::calling off stage left:::.....Zarben.....oh.....!!! S.B. ZARBEN !!!........your audience awaits!

    Ah! Here we go!

Well hello again all you Beyond Uber readers. Now, I know what you're thinking, you just only recently had to suffer through one of my rambles during Raven's marathon post of bards during the Feed the Bards month so why am I doing it again so soon? I'll tell you.

When Mystic Maiden (or MM as she signs her e-mails) posted her first post... hehe, that sounds funny... anyway, when she did and admitted to being a 'fanfic virgin' and asked for recommendations, well, I just had to answer that call for help. So I did, and imagine my surprise when she wrote back and not only knew who I was but told me that A Soldier's Peace is on Raven's must read list. That felt good... a little ego stroking never hurt anyone, right? Right. So MM asked me if I'd do her the honour of being the first bard to ramble on her post. Now how could I turn that down? (Personally, I think she planned the ego stroking all along so I wouldn't say no) So that is how we all came to be here right now, reading this.

Hmm... what else to say? I suppose I could tell you a bit about myself. I'm a Canadian, have been all my life. (Albertan, if that means anything to you folks) I am something of a history buff, more focusing on the ancient Roman and Greek, Egyptain, and Mayan cultures. And medieval times, those are sooo cool. I also have an interest in the world wars and revolutions (French, Russian etc). I have two cats and one dog, all with very strange and unique personalties. Actually, Ranelle's cat Terkers in A Soldier's Peace is somewhat modeled after one of my cats both in looks and behaviour. She's a very odd creature that one, makes for a lot of laughs. I'm not really into sports although I do enjoy hockey games and playing basketball. To watch any other sport seems incredibly dull. I really don't think I'm that interesting of a person so I think I'll end my ramble here. But if you do have some burning curiosity you can always e-mail me and I'll probably, nine times out of ten, answer you... the question, not the e-mail. I always answer my e-mails.

With that in mind, my addy is zarben314@hotmail.com and I'm always anxious to hear from readers.

This is a story of life in the aftermath of 9/11 and the business of trying to move on with a life you didn't expect to lead. Although obviously full of angst, it's also a love story that chronicles the lives of Sarah and Kelly from the day they met until the present.
This story is fiction but touching none the less and a brief tribute to those who lost so much on 9/11/01. Raven Highly Recommends!

Raven's Ravings by Raven of Course :)

Howdy all you fan fiction nutballs! Hope you all had a great weekend!

We have some wonderful new fiction and new authors to introduce tonight but before we get on with the fiction reading marathon I have a nice ramble from

    Mezzo!!!

Hey there Raven, thanks for inviting me to ramble. I can’t tell you how honored I am that you invited me. I don’t know where to begin so I’ll just start at the beginning. (Well here goes nothing…)

About three years ago, I stumbled on a show that no one here has ever heard about called…….. Xena: Warrior Princess. LOL…(Wink, Wink)

And it really sparked something in me that I had spent years turning off. My imagination had always been such a fertile ground as a child and when RL took hold of me, I somehow left my inner child behind. That was until Xena. It wasn’t the fight scenes so much as the connection between our two ladies that affected me. And then there were these life lessons that the two learned together that caused me to ask some important questions in my own life. Week after week I would tune in, in hopes to see that spark the two characters shared or spy some deep life lesson that the producers and writers wanted to convey. When the show didn’t give me what I wanted, then I’d tune in the next week to see if maybe Xena and Gabrielle would have a poignant scene of some sort. The producers were great in stringing me along. Playing with my emotions and toying with my imagination. There lies their genius and there in lies the rub. However through it all, I felt like I was missing something. That the characters were stunted and forced to conform to what commercial T.V. would allow- the politics of our time not allowing them to grow to their full potential.

By accident one day, I came across a link to the world of fan fiction and I finally found what I was looking for. A world that was uncensored and bursting with stories about what I had craved to see happen on the show. And from that day on I was hooked. Logging on day after day until my significant other came and begged me to come to bed, I would go to sleep at night with Xena and Gabrielle on the brain.

Then I came across the world of Uber/Alt stories and I had reached a point of no return. I was amazed at the amount of talent that the Xenaverse possessed and began to read these amazing stories that had nothing to do with the show. I loved how the authors would spin their tales and make me laugh, bring me to tears helping me to escape at a time when escape was exactly what I needed. After reading an endless amount of stories, the idea of writing my own kept flashing in my head and one morning I decided to turn on my computer and see where my imagination would take me. That first initial day, I wrote for twelve hours straight and felt more alive than I had felt in years.

Since then, my story” Impulse” has given me an opportunity to discover a world that I may never see in person and connect in a way that I sometimes wish I could achieve in my own relationships. Tori and Brett are in no way autobiographical, except for the fact that I live close to the city. What I love most about them is the tenderness that they share. A true test to make sure that my characters are connecting on a personal level is if I’m affected in the way that I hope the readers will be. I try really hard to find the truth in my writing and when I think I’ve hit upon the honesty of the moment, then I feel a real sense of satisfaction. As I write, I cry along with my characters and laugh just as deeply. I also try to do the research, although at times, the information out there can be overwhelming. But after I gather all the information, I pretty much throw it all away. I try to digest what I’ve learned so it becomes organic and if it comes out naturally in my writing, then it’s a keeper. I don’t limit myself to factual places and realistic situations mainly because this story is meant to be an escape and a place where I can go to roam freely without limits or boundaries. I think the worst thing I can do is limit myself when I’m in the creative process. It puts a real damper on the whole thing, so I try to stay open throughout it. I’ve also learned to stop writing when I’m tired. I’ve woken up too many times only to read that I’ve written quite a bit of hogwash the night before. So I’ve stopped writing past my bedtime unless I’m so into what I’m doing that I can’t step away. And lastly, whenever I’m done a writing session, I thank my inner child for coming out to play because I so missed her when she was gone.

I can’t believe how wonderful everyone has been since I’ve released the story. People from all over the world have written and been so kind. When I first sat down in front of my computer, I had no idea where this would lead me. And now I know I’m not alone. I can’t tell you how everyone’s feedback has inspired and pushed me to continue. It’s an amazing feeling when someone takes the time to let you know that your story has given them a bit of enjoyment.

I would also like to thank Beyond Uber and sites like these for their tireless efforts in providing a venue in which we can all come to be entertained. And to the many Bards out there that test their wings everyday. Your work is greatly appreciated. Again, thank you to everyone out there for your support. As long as the ideas keep coming, I promise to keep writing.

Take care and happy reading and writing,

    enCHANTations by Mystic Maiden

Thank you for all the help, suggestions, and general friendly exchanges I have received since my first post here @beyonduber! You are truly 'nut balls'....I mean....GREAT FOLKS! =0 Thou it's true that I'm not much of a reader but more of an artist, I will have to get to some of this fan fiction and see what all the rave is about.

This coming week will be a week of reflection and remembrance. My wish for you is Peace. Peace, love and knowledge in your hearts and daily lives. Peace so that we will continue to heal. Love so that we can pass the healing on. Knowledge that we live in the best country in the world. A country of a peace loving society that won't put up with the hate mongering individuals/societies of the world. We still have work to do here at home on this subject however. So my challenge for all of you this week is for you to give a bit of love out to someone you normally would not have. This could be as simple as a genuine hello to a stranger or it could be giving a meal to someone who might would go without. A simple hello and smile has more of an impact than you might think.

Now, lets frolic and play...:::wink wink:::...the forest fairies are calling us!

First of all I want to introduce you to a group out of Canada that would like any and everyone who is interested in Uber to check them out and join them. You don't have to be Canadian to join in the fun! So check them out.

    Raven's Ravings by Raven

    Good Evening Folks!

I would like to first like to thank those of you who emailed Mystic Maiden to welcome her to the site. She is a very talented individual and we have planned some treats for the site and for you to enjoy in the coming weeks!
As Mystic Maiden is more of a web designer and artist she could use your help with reviews of stories that are new and any recommendations of current tales you have enjoyed so that she may let the fans know some of the not to miss fiction! So be sure to email her at mysticmaiden@attbi.com !

Now for a wonderful ramble from Carole Giorgio

    Hello to All:

Raven has asked me to participate in her large undertaking of getting bards to ramble. I don’t think she realizes that that’s what most of us do quite naturally and on a daily basis; somehow it just happens to turn into stories

Let me ramble a little more now and tell you how destiny played a part in the birth of Laguna Nights, Sedona Rain, and my X&G series.

To begin . . . never in my wildest dreams could I have imagined the impact that going to the 1999 Xena Convention would have on my life. I was sitting in an uncomfortable seat, very near the last row of the gold section at the Pasadena Convention. I was grumbling that I had purchased my tickets within the first 10 minutes of them being put on sale and that I was sitting in almost the last row . . . I already said that, didn’t I? Well, I was angry, especially when the lady who was sitting in front of me said she had ordered her tickets three days after they went on sale, and she was seated in front of me! Needless to say the complaining turned into a conversation. After all, what else do you have to do while waiting patiently for your row to be called so you can get a signed autograph or two? I told this person, who I shall call, Jeanne (because that’s her name [g) that I was a late bloomer to the Xena scene, but I was quickly catching up and was already as obsessive as the next Xenite. From there the conversation turned to FanFic (Excuse me? I queried. What in Tarnation is FanFic?). That question opened the floodgates, and I received an earful of everything that was happening on the Internet in the area of fan writing. Near the end of the conversation, I mumbled something to the extent that I could write a little and that it sounded like it might be fun but that I had no idea how to begin. By the time I was finished talking with Jeanne, I had a very good idea as how to begin (g). I went home from the convention, sat down at my computer and began writing a story that, 411 pages later became known as Laguna Nights (actually it was known as Laguna Nights about 20 pages later, but became the published version at 411 pages (g). Sedona Rain is the continuation of that story and now there is a third book in the writing. As to the origin of my X&G stories, they were begun at the prompting of a few friends, along with the horrible vision of Xena hitting Gabrielle in the head with the chakram. I needed to get that picture out of my head and writing my own version seemed to be the idea solution––I had no idea it was going to turn into the series of stories entitled New Beginnings.

Here it is three years later, and I’m still writing and talking to hundreds of people via the Internet, people that I have come to know as friends and even as family. As I type, the editing on my second book, Sedona Rain, is in progress. The editing was initiated by the fact that I was writing along, not paying any particular attention to the length of the story that Alex and Samantha were relating to me and trying finish chapter 20. I think my muse put a thought in my head to check the number of pages that the story was claiming. Ouch! 575 pages and chapter 20 was not even included. No way could I put all that into one book! So, for those of you following the story, guess what? You’ve already finished reading it and are now four chapters into the next book in the saga with the tentative title California Gold. I promise to clean things up on the sites and inform everyone properly as soon as I make the needed transitions.

Consequently, and to bring this rambling to a close, had I not received rotten seating at the Con in 1999 and had I not gotten into a long discussion with Jeanne, I would never have discovered FanFiction nor would I be writing this piece on Raven’s site today. In essence, I thank the gods for terrible seating (yeah, and Creation, I guess (g). which prompted the fortuitous meeting between me and one of my favorite people. And I thank all of you who read my work and those who let me know how much you appreciate my muse and the time and effort I put into my writing. It’s great to belong to such an extended family, and I consider myself extremely blessed.

    enCHANTations by Mystic Maiden

    Thank you, Raven!

I'm very excited to be joining you here at Beyond Uber!! I've been told about several rules to this site.

Rule 1: Raven is always right.
I have experienced this rule first hand and know it is actually true....SCAREY but TRUE.

Rule 2: Everyone who posts must have children.
Therefore I must inform you of my 2 beautiful girls. Kd (pronounced - Katie), a 9yr old Blue Merle - Austrailian Shepherd and a 10yr old grey and white ally cat named Sydney. You may be asking why my cats name is Sydney. Well, she has the Austrailian continent across her face.

Rule 3: I must tell you a bit about myself. :::being poked and proded by Raven:::
    OK.....so.....here ya go.....

I find myself in my 10th year in the beautiful state of Colorado, a happy transplant from Louisiana. Being the computer geek that I am, pocket protector and all, Raven thought I would be a useful addition to her site. :::Raven snickering in the corner:::......:::SUCKER written across Mystic Maiden's forehead:::

In addition to the posts that I will be helping Raven with, you will also be seeing a bit of my
CREATIVE DIMENSIONS added to the site. :::Raven with whip and chair::: Apparently I have to get moving on this ASAP!

    Last but definiately not least:

Rule 4: I must learn to love Fan Fiction.
I am very much a virgin to Fan Fiction. I would like to put a plea out to all you experts, [(fan fiction nut balls) ...ok, so, Raven made me say that] your reviews, recommendations and story notices would be GREATLY appreciated! Please just email me at mysticmaiden@attbi.com and let me know of your favorite stories...or just to chat...your ramblings will be read and responses will be quick.

So concludes the rules .... until further notice by Raven...

I know you all are biten' at the bit to get to your new latest and greatest fiction so I will shut up and get on with it...

    ENJOY!!
